*SPOILER ALERT* Johnny's Death
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the quote "Stay gold." intrigued me. Was Johnny trying to tell Ponyboy something, or was it just some last words from Johnny that weren't supposed to make sense at all? I personally think that it was supposed to show that Johnny really cares about Ponyboy, and wants to let Pony know that before he dies. I also think that the phrasing was meant to refer to the quote on page 77, "Nothing gold can stay", and that was foreshadowing to Johnny's death, since Ponyboy thinks of Johnny as "gold".
